Happy Sunday night everyone! I know there is a lot of good TV on right now and I'm having to DVR it because I'm swamped with work stuff and then getting ready for bed. But I had to get Day 9 on here! Today's theme is Rainbow. I'll be honest, I don't really like this theme. I've seen the rainbow day done quite well [here's a good example, or here] but I myself just wasn't excited about it. But, that's how it goes. You can't love'em all. I did the mani anyway because I'm dead-set on finishing this challenge [almost 1/3 of the way through!] so here it is.
Like I said, I'm not crazy about it. I thought the concept I was going for was actually pretty good but my execution was poor. The I did red/orange on my thumb, orange/yellow, yellow/green, green/blue, blue/purple. I figured this was the best way to get all the ROYGBV on one hand. However, the orange and yellow looked too similar in the pics, and you can't even tell that those are different colors on the pinkie. IRL it's much easier to see the deep purple on the right and blue on the left of the pinkie.
I also started just having one half one color and the other half the other color without the stripe but I thought it was kind of bland and sad that way so I used a silver striping brush and polish set. It makes an otherwise crap mani a little more sparkly. I probably wore this all of 20 minutes. Disliked it that much. Ah, well. C'est la vie.
I will tell you the colors I used though...
Red - Bus Stop Crimson by Orly
Orange - Pull Over by Sinful Colors
Yellow - Electric by Revlon
Green - Happy Ending by Sinful Colors
Blue - Frostbite by China Glaze
Purple - Let's Talk by Sinful Colors
Silver - silver striping set that I got from Wal-mart [came w/white and black too]
I love Sinful Colors...got most of them for $0.99 on sale at Walgreens. They offset the $$ I spend at Ulta.
| See? Even a close-up in the sunlight and you can't really see a difference between the colors. Jeez. |
I had a lot of ideas about how I thought this should go but I guess I just didn't spend that much time trying to make it look fabulous. That's probably why most of the nails look goopy. Plus, my house was kind of hot so I had a fan blowing on me...this made the SV top coat stringy and crazy hard to use [why didn't I just turn off the fan you ask? Cause I'm a dodo...didn't occur to me until waaaaay later...anywho, we all have those moments].
Anyway, I guess I've already said how much I disliked this so I'll move on.
On another note, anyone seen Fast Five yet? I saw it in the theater [or cinema, if you will] while I was in Europe and was really excited to watch it again. It didn't disappoint. Watched it tonight. I just <3 Vin Diesel and The Rock. Good stuff.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a fairly stress free day and I can get home and post pics of the day's mani. Also, I painted some swatches today from some of the new colors I have from Essie [including the Fall 2011 collection] so I'll be posting those soon as well. Until tomorrow!
